The Maryland Science Center Internship Program allows qualified undergraduate and graduate students to fulfill internships through volunteer work. Interns gain a better understanding of a career area while experiencing the satisfaction of making an important contribution to the Maryland Science Center.
Internships are for credit or non-credit as determined by each school/course instructor. Specific internship projects and positions are offered by the Maryland Science Center; however, internship responsibilities are flexible and may be altered to match the needs of the school/course instructor.

Who can intern at the Maryland Science Center?
Undergraduate and graduate students needing to fulfill internship requirements for credit, and undergraduate and graduate students wanting to gain experience in their field of study.

What are the internship requirements?
Specific requirements including number of hours, specific skills, and educational experience vary with each department. Each applicant will be assessed individually to determine acceptance into the Internship Program and to match qualifications with an appropriate position.

What do Maryland Science Center Interns do?
Internship positions are offered in almost every department at the Maryland Science Center. Interns may be asked to work alongside staff members on the exhibit floors or to complete an independent project beneficial to the Science Center. There are available opportunities in the following departments: BodyLink, Development, Education, Exhibits, Guest Services, IMAX/Planetarium, Information Systems, Marketing, SpaceLink/TerraLink, WetLab.

When can I intern at the Maryland Science Center?
Depending on the department and position most internships are available throughout the year but available days and times may vary. Interns may choose to volunteer for one or more semesters, and seasonal (summer and winter) internships are also available. Maryland Science Center interns must volunteer for a minimum of three weeks.

Will I be paid for my internship?
No. Internships at the Maryland Science Center are unpaid; however, if compensation is needed, please contact the Volunteer Office for alternate opportunities that may match your internship needs.

What are the benefits of interning at the Maryland Science Center?
Interns receive membership to the Maryland Science Center at the Adventurer Level, free parking while volunteering, discounts in Beaker's Café and the Science Store, and invitations to special events. Interns will gain invaluable job experience, build their resume, and learn and have fun in the process.

How do I apply?
